When do we need a customer data platform?
Not everyone needs a customer data platform. It involves both licensing and implementation costs, and the benefits depend on how complex the data landscape is.
You have more than two or three systems containing customer data. Simple questions about the overall picture require several days of manual work. And different departments use figures that do not match, without anyone being able to say which one is correct.
If you have two systems, a direct integration is almost always faster and more affordable. If the problem is that one database is messy, cleaning it up is more valuable than a platform that consolidates the mess.
The first time the data is brought together, it becomes clear how much of it is outdated, duplicated, or incorrectly recorded. This is useful, but set aside time for it—many projects underestimate this particular phase.
