Why do CRM projects fail?
We’ve been involved in enough projects that went off the rails to see the pattern. Technology is rarely the problem.
“Better customer follow-up” cannot be measured, which means the project can neither be managed nor completed. Without three specific things that need to improve, no one knows when you have achieved your goal.
The project had a leader until go-live, and then no one. The system stagnates, requests pile up, and people find workarounds. This is the most common cause of failure.
Migrated duplicates and outdated information cause users to distrust the system. Once they have lost trust, it takes a long time to regain it.
The system was implemented, but sales meetings are still run using a spreadsheet. This signals to the organization that management does not consider the CRM system the single source of truth, and the rest follows naturally.
