What is Microsoft Copilot Studio?

Copilot Studio lets you build conversational agents without a development project. The agent can be added to your website, Teams, or an app and answer questions from customers or colleagues.

Two ways to respond

The agent can follow a topic you have defined—a structured conversation with specific questions and answers—or respond freely based on a knowledge source you direct it to. Most solutions use both: guided conversations where precision is required, and free-form responses otherwise.

Knowledge is the bottleneck

An agent can only answer based on the information available to it. If the knowledge articles are outdated or incomplete, the answers will be too. Almost invariably, the real work lies in organizing the knowledge, not in building the agent.

It does not replace first-line support

A realistic goal is to handle the recurring questions, freeing up people to focus on the difficult ones. Agents designed to handle everything end up handling it poorly.
