What is a customer journey, and how is it structured?
A customer journey is an automated flow in which the next step depends on what the recipient does.
A trigger that starts the journey, the content that is sent, and branches based on actions. Opened, clicked, or no response each leads down a different path.
What should the journey achieve? A booked meeting, a download, or a purchase. Without a single goal, the journey becomes a series of messages with no direction, making it impossible to measure.
Three to five steps. Journeys with twenty branches are impossible to troubleshoot when something goes wrong—and something always goes wrong.
When should someone exit the journey? Upon purchase, upon reply, or after the final message. Without an exit, people may receive messages after they have already made a purchase.
