What does a 360-degree customer view mean?

The term is widely used in sales materials and rarely means the same thing to two people.

What it should mean

The person answering the phone can see that the customer has an open case, an outstanding offer, and that there was a complaint last year. Enough context to provide a coordinated response without requiring the customer to explain their situation.

What it should not mean

Every single piece of information from every system on one screen. That is not a customer view; it is a data dump. No one reads it, and it includes personal data you do not need.

Start with three questions

What does the person interacting with the customer need to know? Where is that information stored today? Who updates it? Answering those three questions gives you a useful customer view without a platform.
