Why isn't a security role working as expected?
Security roles behave differently than people expect, which leads to two common surprises.
If a user has three roles, they receive the combined permissions of all three. Adding a role with fewer permissions does not remove anything. If you want to restrict someone, you must remove the role that grants too many permissions.
Administrators can see everything regardless of their role. Just because something looks right to you does not mean it looks the same to a salesperson. Test with an account that has the actual role.
The user may be a member of a team that has its own roles. In that case, access may come from somewhere entirely different than the user’s own roles — this is the most common reason why “the role looks right, but the user can see too much.”
Always test in a new session after making a change. Otherwise, you’ll be troubleshooting an outdated state.
