Why can't I open Dynamics 365?

The message you receive when login fails is rarely informative. These four causes cover almost everything.

License missing

Without a Dynamics 365 license, you won't be able to sign in, regardless of your password. The quickest way to resolve this is to contact the person who manages licenses.

Security role is missing

If you have a license but no role in the environment, you will either be unable to access it or find it empty when you log in. A new employee who has been assigned a license but no role is the classic example.

You are in the wrong environment

If you have test and production environments, it is entirely possible to open the wrong address. Check the URL against the one your colleagues use.

Wrong account in the browser

If you're signed in with a personal Microsoft account in the same browser, the sign-in process fails in a confusing way. Try using a private window — this rules out that cause in ten seconds.
