What should we consider before letting AI loose on customer data?
AI applied to customer data is useful, but it has some pitfalls worth considering in advance.
If you point it at everything, it may reproduce information from cases and notes that the user would not otherwise have found. Limit the source to what is intended to be shared.
An agent that reads from an index does not necessarily inherit the permissions in the source system. Verify this explicitly rather than assuming it.
It will make mistakes. The question is whether the response goes directly to the customer or is reviewed by a person first. For outbound communications, a person should approve it initially.
Customers who discover that they were talking to a machine without being told react negatively. Transparency costs nothing and prevents many problems.
