What is the difference between cloud flows and desktop flows?
Power Automate has two families, and they are far from equivalent even though they have almost the same name.
Runs in the cloud and communicates with the systems through their official interfaces. It is robust, can handle changes to the system's appearance, and runs without anyone being logged in. This is the default option.
Controls a program on a computer by clicking and typing like a human. Solves the problem when a system has no interface to connect to—typically an old line-of-business system. The trade-off is that the flow breaks when a button is moved, and it requires a computer that remains switched on.
Use a cloud flow wherever possible. Choose a desktop flow only when the alternative is manual work that cannot be handled in any other way, and plan for the maintenance it will require. Treat it as a temporary solution, even if it becomes permanent.
