The March release changes segment work
Microsoft’s Customer Insights update history shows two March versions. Marketers could create static segments of up to 200,000 members through CSV, API or a Dataverse view. Enhanced consent-based segmentation became generally available, alongside paid event registration and enhanced reCAPTCHA in the other March version. These were concrete product changes, although every organization still needed to confirm its installed version.
Larger uploaded segments make source controls more important. Before import, record purpose, source, consent state, date and duplicate rule. After import, compare valid, rejected and suppressed recipient counts with the source. Paid event registration needs reconciliation across registration, payment, refund and attendance. Marketing analytics should distinguish technical delivery from business outcomes.
The field plan is forward-looking
Microsoft published its Dynamics 365 and Power Platform 2026 release wave 1 plan on 18 March. For Field Service, it described planned investment in technician productivity, resource scheduling and work orders for April through September. This was March planning news rather than evidence that features were already available. Each capability required its own date and status check in release planner.
Field management can use the plan for impact analysis. Map affected roles, integrations, mobile devices and reports. Select work orders with poor connectivity, multiple resources, changed appointments and spare parts. For every scenario, describe the current outcome, expected improvement and a stop rule. Avoid setting benefit targets until a capability exists in the test environment and the actual process has been verified.
Connect customer and operating data with controls
Marketing data may influence customer follow-up, while field records show delivery and service demand. Their connection needs an agreed purpose and named owners. A segment should not create or prioritize work orders directly without checks of customer status, contract and capacity. Field completion should not automatically change marketing consent.
Agree how quickly data may move between systems. Yesterday’s segment may suit a campaign but not an urgent field visit. Label extracts with refresh time and stop automated handovers when the source is delayed or quality checks fail.
Create a joint scorecard for data quality, processing time and customer outcome. For segments, track duplicates, suppression and wrong recipients. For field work, track scheduling changes, first-time fix and incomplete documentation. March’s news gives management a concrete point to update the test plan. It does not establish productivity benefits before local evidence exists.
