Yuliia Kamkova showed Frode Stenstrøm how Power BI can pull data from Dynamics 365 Project Operations and be embedded back into CRM.
In this 2025 webinar, Yuliia Kamkova of ProsessPilotene showed Frode Stenstrøm how to pull project data from Dynamics 365 Project Operations into Power BI reports, with the goal of feeding that insight back into the CRM where project managers and salespeople already work. The starting point was that Project Operations only shows progress for one project at a time, with no view across a whole portfolio.
Kamkova pulled data from four Dataverse tables, project, project task, account and user, directly into Power BI Desktop via a SQL endpoint, and showed how the Level Up for Dynamics browser extension can reveal the logical field names needed in the queries. She then built a cross-project Gantt chart using a Power BI-certified custom visual, and explained why it pays to choose actively maintained, documented visuals over randomly downloaded code.
The report was then published to the Power BI service and added as a dashboard inside the Dynamics app via Power Apps, so it appears as a tab directly on the project page. Kamkova went on to a more advanced example where the report is automatically filtered by the customer's account ID, editing the form's XML with the XRM Toolbox tool so that each customer or contact only sees the projects that concern them.
The walkthrough gave a concrete example of how Power BI can combine data from multiple sources and deliver visualisations not available in the CRM's standard functionality, and noted that the same approach works with data from other systems, such as finance or inventory, without costly integrations.
CRM-Konsulent
