The demonstration followed project data from Dynamics 365 into a Power BI report. It covered the Dataverse connection, selection of tables and relationships, and how the data model shapes what the report can show.

What this means for the organisation

A technical connection is only the beginning. Report owners must define terms, control access and document how measures are calculated. Management should also decide which questions the report must answer before choosing visuals and refresh frequency.

The walkthrough followed the concrete chain from Dataverse tables and relationships to a Power BI report. It showed that modelling choices determine which comparisons are possible. Access rules and definitions need to travel with the data, or a visually clear report may suggest an interpretation the source system does not support.

Microsoft’s July 2020 feature summary records Power BI capabilities and integration context from the vendor’s perspective. The demonstration provides more concrete evidence by following tables and relationships from Dynamics 365 through Dataverse. Together they show both what the platform offered and which modelling choices the report author had to make.

The report should be checked from visual back to measure, relationship and source table. A small set of known project records can expose duplicate rows, faulty filtering or missing access before scale-up. Documented definitions help management distinguish real change from effects caused by the model or refresh.
