Analytics surfaces gain more entry points
The 20 January Power BI summary covered reporting, semantic model and developer changes. Microsoft also presented markers in Azure Maps that month, while modern visual tooltips became generally available on 26 January. Markers can provide a clearer view of locations, incidents or resources. Teams still need to verify coordinates, categories and aggregation before using a map for decisions.
The monthly update distinguished general availability from preview. Internal communication needs to preserve that distinction. A report owner should record the Desktop version, workspace and enabled preview options. Before a new visual reaches management, compare its results with a known report and sample source records. Better presentation does not establish better data quality.
Usage data becomes a management responsibility
Microsoft opened a new usage page in the Power Platform admin center as public preview on 27 January. It consolidated trends across Power Apps, Power Automate and Copilot Studio. This may help platform owners see where adoption grows or stalls. The numbers should identify questions rather than rank employees. More runs say little about quality without failure rate, processing time and process outcome.
The usage page was a preview. Administrators should document included fields and boundaries before adding its numbers to regular reporting. If a count differs from exports or existing telemetry, retain both measures until the cause is understood. This prevents a new administration surface from creating a false break in the trend.
Create a monthly review in which owners select a few workflows and apps. Compare active users, runs, failures, license cost and completed business work. Agree thresholds for training, correction and retirement. Analytics then becomes part of portfolio management, while automation is assessed through reliable operation rather than volume alone.
Collaboration context needs traceability
Microsoft published its Teams January releases on 3 February. One change renamed the Files tab in channels to Shared and added links from channel posts. That can make decision material easier to retrieve. Teams still need to identify the current file or link and move durable decisions into the appropriate task, record or governing document.
Connect report, workflow and channel to one named process owner. In the monthly review, that owner should explain the data source, latest refresh, exceptions and next action. A Teams link to an obsolete report or an automation without an owner becomes an operating exception. January’s changes improve the surfaces; value appears when the organization connects them through a simple control loop.
