The data model can be examined in a browser
The 20 August Power BI update introduced DAX Query View in the web service as a public preview. Users could write and run DAX queries against a semantic model and work with measures without opening Desktop. This gave analytics teams another route to troubleshooting and model work, while retaining the need for review, access control and testing before a shared model changes.
A project manager may receive faster answers about progress or resources when an analyst can examine the model close to the report. Questions still need defined measures. “Delayed” and “complete” should have the same meaning in Planner, the model and the steering report.
Task information becomes more visible
The 29 August Planner update described improvements in Planner in Teams, including richer task details and accessibility work. The 30 August Teams update brought together changes for meetings, chat and work surfaces. Individual capabilities had their own rollout conditions, so organizations needed to verify what was enabled in their tenant.
Project work benefits when discussion, task and report sit closer together. A chat decision can still fail to update the plan, or a report may use old task status. A named meeting owner should record the decision and verify assignee and due date in the governing system.
DAX Query View was a preview, so teams should first test it on a copy or bounded workspace. Store the question, expected result and model version with the change request. A model owner can then repeat the check before publication and connect the evidence to the task that requested the analysis.
One test from question to action
Select a project exception and follow the complete chain. The analyst uses DAX Query View to verify the figure and records query and model version. The project manager assesses the cause, the decision is recorded in Teams and Planner receives one task with owner and due date. The next report refresh should show the change.
Also test permissions with model developer, report reader and external project participant. Browser convenience should not grant edit access. Measure time from question to confirmed action, unowned tasks and unreviewed model changes.
The August changes support productivity when analytics and collaboration refer to shared sources. They do not automatically make project information correct. Project and data owners must preserve definition, access and traceability from model question to completed task.
