How do I number projects and orders?

Use the numbering convention

1. 1.Use the customer number

   Have Dynamics 365 set the customer number in the format A12345, where 12345 is the customer's number.

2. 2.Set the project number

   Have Dynamics 365 set the project number in the format P12345-##.

3. 3.Enter the order number

   Enter the order number in the format O12345-##.

4. 4.Enter the case number

   Assign the case a sequential number in the format SAK-XXXXX.

5. 5.Use revision numbers on internal documents

   Number internal documents using the revision number set in SharePoint.

Separate main project from subproject

1. 6.Use the main project number only for portfolio status

   Let P12345 be the main project—it is not created in CRM, but is used only in reports and Project to show portfolio status.

2. 7.Log hours on the subproject

   Use P12345-01 as the subproject, and record hours here if the project does not use assignments in Xledger.

3. 8.Create an actual project using assignments

   When an assignment in Xledger needs to be replaced, create a new actual project number in the format P12345-0101 and record the hours there.
