About the customer: Statens Kartverk manages and makes available Norway’s most important map and geodata services. Their services contribute to efficient planning, safe development, and better digital collaboration across sectors.
The challenge
Kartverket needed a modern, secure, and scalable solution for ordering various types of geodata and subscriptions, as well as sales reporting for its resellers. The existing portal was based on Power Pages and had reached its limits.
Several manual processes, limited automation, and restricted flexibility made it difficult to deliver efficient services:
- Time-consuming administration and user management
- Limited support for file uploads and data validation
- Limited opportunities for further development
- Increasing need for better security and control
Solution: Automated order handling
To meet these needs, ProsessPilotene developed a new, customized customer portal based on modern technology and architecture.
The portal consists of three applications, adapted to different user roles. It includes POD reporting (Print on Demand) for handling orders and reporting, FKB (common map database) for access to detailed map data, as well as position services that provide an overview of, among other things, cables and pipes in connection with digging and construction. The latter is partially integrated with external services.
Efficient self-service that provides better control, higher quality, and less manual work.
The solution is developed as a custom-built portal with close integration to Dynamics 365 Sales (CRM) and Dynamics 365 Customer Service. The portal itself is built on Next.js, which provides fast page loads and a modern user experience. It runs on Microsoft Azure with automatic scaling, redundancy, and tight coupling to the Dynamics environment. Sign-in is handled through Microsoft Entra External ID, which provides a secure login experience with two-factor authentication.
Throughout the solution, great emphasis has been placed on self-service and automation, efficient user management, robust file uploads and data validation, as well as high security – including through the use of two-factor authentication.
Better user experience and more control
The new customer portal automates processes, improves the user experience, and provides better control over data flow and integrations.
This will deliver several concrete benefits:
A more modern and intuitive user experience- Less manual work through increased automation
- Faster onboarding of new users
- Better data quality through structure and validation
- Increased security with modern authentication solutions
- A scalable platform that is ready for further development
Kartverket now has a future-oriented solution that supports both current needs and further digitalization.
The road ahead for Kartverket
With the new portal in place, Kartverket has a solid foundation for further development of its services. The solution makes it easier to introduce new features, integrations, and improvements in line with users’ needs.
