Overview
Microsoft 365 is not a single application, but a family of services that share the same sign-in, security model, and storage. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are the most visible, but Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Copilot are what tie the workday together.
What does Microsoft 365 include?
- Office apps: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint – on PC, Mac, web browsers, and mobile devices.
- Email and meetings: Outlook with Exchange Online, and Teams for meetings, chat, and calling.
- Files and collaboration: OneDrive for individual files, SharePoint for content owned collectively by the organization.
- AI: Microsoft 365 Copilot, grounded in the organization's own documents and meetings.
- Security and governance: Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Purview, and Defender for Office 365.
The licenses are linked to the apps
The plan determines which apps employees get and the level of security included. Business Basic provides browser-based apps, Business Standard adds locally installed apps, and Business Premium adds advanced security and device management. Copilot is available as a separate add-on license.
