Why do we need Power Platform governance?

Power Platform is designed to enable people without a development background to solve their own problems. That is its strength, and without ground rules, it becomes the problem.

What happens without governance

After a year, you have apps and flows that no one knows who owns, some run on personal accounts and stop working when that person leaves, and several people have built almost the same thing without knowing about each other. No single decision was wrong — but the sum of them was.

Minimum governance

Separate the environments: one place to try things out, another for what is in production. Require a named owner for everything that is put into production. And maintain an inventory of what exists, reviewing it a couple of times a year.

Don't build a bureaucracy

Governance that requires approval for every little app defeats the purpose of the platform. The goal is to know what exists and who is accountable for it—not to control every idea.
