Why do the technicians have to log their time as they go?
Technicians often see status updates as an administrative burden on top of their work. The connection to invoicing is rarely explained.
When the technician sets the order to Traveling, travel time starts. When it is set to In Progress, the actual arrival time is recorded. Paused and Completed close out the calculation. These timestamps are converted into working time, travel time, and break time—and thus form the basis for invoicing.
If all statuses are entered at the end of the day, the times will only be estimates. If the invoice is disputed, you will have no supporting evidence. Recording statuses as you go takes seconds and provides an auditable trail.
In our experience, this changes when technicians learn that this is what determines whether the job gets paid. Presented as a reporting requirement, it is perceived as monitoring; presented as the basis for invoicing, it makes sense.
