What can technicians do in the mobile app without network coverage?
This is a very real concern in Norway. A lot of service work is carried out in technical rooms, basements, tunnels, and areas without coverage, and an app that requires a constant internet connection becomes unusable in practice.
The Field Service mobile app supports offline mode. The technician can view the day's work orders, customer details, and equipment information, update statuses, log time spent and parts used, take photos, and capture signatures. Changes are queued and synchronized when connectivity is restored.
Offline mode works with data that has been downloaded in advance. If the technician heads out with an empty app because the phone has not been online since yesterday, it makes little difference that the app supports offline use. Make a habit of opening the app while there is still coverage—typically before leaving the office or the vehicle.
When a technician works offline, the scheduling board is not updated until synchronization takes place. The planner therefore needs to know who is working in areas without coverage, so they do not interpret the lack of status updates as a sign that something has come to a halt. This is something worth clarifying during the implementation project, not afterward.
